Maria
Liebesbund/Legion of Mary
The Legion of Mary is a ministry to help the parish reach out to all people.
The name Maria Liebesbund recalls the German origin of St. Joseph Parish.
The legion holds a devotional meeting each Tuesday in the parish social
hall at 6:30 p.m. Visitors are always welcome. Members of the legion take
Holy Communion to the homebound and perform other spiritual and corporal
works of mercy.
Holy Name Society
The Society of the Holy Name of Jesus was founded in 1274 and has been
described as the greatest organization intended for Catholic laymen.
Its
members bind themselves to labor for the glory of the Holy Name; to pronounce
it always with reverence; to abstain from all sinful speech;
and to strive that others may also refrain from evil speaking. It is
a society for Catholic men living in the world, and its aim is to help
them so live that their everyday duties to God and their neighbor will
be well performed -- that they will lead lives of manly virtue and of
good example, resounding to the greater glory of God.
The Holy Name Society of St. Joseph Church attends the 10:30 mass on
the second Sunday of each month and prays the Holy Name pledge together
at the end of mass. They then go to the church hall for a coffee hour
and monthly meeting. Any men interested in joining the Holy Name Society
are more than welcome to participate in this monthly devotion. Wives
and sweethearts are welcome to celebrate mass and attend the meeting
in the hall.
